City outlines plan for improved bike, pedestrian routes

Federal Way has a plan to create more bike lanes, improved sidewalks, paved trails and other facilities with its new Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan.

The Federal Way Planning Commission has approved the outlined plan, which it hopes will improve walking and biking conditions in the city for health, recreation and transportation reasons.

The plan outlines where proposed trails, sidewalks and roads will be located and outlines the costs associated with the project, which will be paid for in part by funds from the Department of Health and Human Services and Public Health.

Residents can check out the draft plan online or attend a presentation by the City Council Land Use Transportation Committee on Feb. 13 at 5:30 p.m. in City Council Chambers.

Written comments can be submitted to Janet Shull at janet.shull@cityoffederalway.com. The committee will also take comments at the Feb. 13 meeting.
